Among the multiple "comebacks" of his long career, Little Richard's early 1970s recordings are far and away the most interesting and stylistically adventurous of the lot. His first in a series of records for the Reprise label, The Rill Thing, casually shifts from deeply southern swamp rock, country standards, a Beatles cover and even a ten-minute mild funk jam, features Little Richard on both electric and acoustic pianos and typifies the funky reckless abandon that makes this LP such a thrill. With The Rill Thing, he wasn't aiming to break new ground or retread on his golden period, only prove his validity to an audience that had all but forgotten about him. The fact that he went so far beyond that is truly remarkable. His trio of LPs from this era included The Rill Thing, The King of Rock n' Roll and The Second Coming, while a fourth, Southern Child remained unissued until Rhino released a limited edition set on their Handmade label that collected all of the material from the Reprise sessions. Enjoy the king in all his splendor, whooooo!!!Tuesday

'been looking for this one a long time as well! thx.
damn, i didn't know that anybody else dug this record.
This is great -- thanks a lot!
You may want to stop by my place -- http://echoesinthewind.blogspot.com/
Great LP, I first bought it in 1973 while a member of Little Richards fan club.
The Rhino Handmade CD set was well overdue and I even contributed a brief review to Amazon's UK site in the hope of encouraging people to buy it.
Great stuff! What a ripping album. I didn't realize he had it in him into the '70s!
this album is awesome, but this rip skips all over the place. at the very least, thanks for hipping me to a great record, and keep up the good work.

I'll be re-upping a CD-quality rip of this one very soon. stay tuned!
I had this album in 1970. Loved it, then lost all my LP's in someones attic & they all got warped in the summer. Been looking for The Rill Thing for 30 years. I saw Little Richard in concert in Burlington, Iowa 10 years ago & asked his manager to release it. Does anyone have it or give me a link to download it? Would really appreciate it hughly! Thanks.
Hey, Rich. Thanks for dropping in. The folks at Back on the Road posted The Rill Thing about a month ago. If this whets your whistle, try to hunt down the Complete Reprise Sessions for more Little Richard material from this era. Highly recommended!
