The Electric Prunes

Stockholm 67 - 1967

Pumped full of fuzzy guitars, wailing vocals, sheets of reverb and a mammoth combo organ, this live LP was recorded on December 14, 1967 from the Concert Hall in Stockholm, originally taped for broadcast on Swedish radio, and is presented here fully restored and wonderfully remastered. Easily the best LP from the Electric Prunes and arguably the finest live album of the psychedelic era this set includes (of course) "I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night" alongside solid covers of "I Got My Mojo Workin'" and a "Smokestack Lightning" that rivals any of the Yardbirds' versions out there. There are traces all over this LP pointing towards what the Stooges and the MC5 would be doing two years down the road.

There's a tiny indie record shoppe in Tijuana, Mexico called "La Ciruela El├ęctrica," and given the place's psychedelic decor, I wouldn't doubt that this band is the inspiration for the establishment's name.
